Hi Daddy...Flat Daddy, that is...!

I've only been spooked and jumped once so far when strolling in the dark kitchen to turn on the coffee pot and let Lilly out.  It's dark...you really only have moon light and there is a face looking at me - yikes!  I realize this is great for Marissa.  She's pretty intuitive and cognoscente of her surroundings (and kind of a mommas girl) so she needs to see him.

I carried Marissa into the kitchen yesterday evening when we got home and said "hi daddy" and was talking to the board.  Kennedy came running upstairs and said "where is he...where's my daddy?".  I told her we were talking to the flat daddy because remember, he isn't home yet.  She then walked over and hugged the board then moved him over by the back door.  Maybe she thought he needed a change of scenery.

Here are some pictures before bath time the other night in Marissa's room.  Kennedy was too busy running around naked to be in many pictures.
Kennedy took this picture :)

The Flat Daddy has arrived!

In case you haven't heard of a Flat Daddy, I'm happy to tell you what it is.  Hell, I would never have heard of or owned one if Chris wasn't deployed so why would you know?  They are a poster of your soldier made to help children stay connected to their parent while they are away.  I was fortunate to get a voucher from The American Red Cross and order a Flat Daddy for the girls.  He arrived last Friday and I will pick up a foam board this weekend so I can adhere the picture to the foam board (pictures to follow).  I've read stories of families taking Flat Daddy with them in the car, on vacation etc but our Flat Daddy will hang out in the kitchen.  That's where we are a lot so why not enjoy him there as well.

When I took it out of the tube Kennedy took a good look and said "Does it talk?".  I'm sure Chris is thrilled to know she called him an it but she's right; 'it' isn't real but 'it' sure looks real!
